TIPS FOR WATER DAMAGE EMERGENCIES:

1. Wipe furniture dry and block it up so that damage does not occur.
2. Lift drapes off the carpeting, loop them through a coat hanger, and hang the coat hanger on the curtain rod. 
3. Open closet doors, furniture drawers, and luggage to allow air to circulate and speed drying.  Wipe dry where possible.
4. Move photographs, paintings, and treasured objects to a dry, safe area.
5. Remove wet fabrics and dry them as soon as possible.
6. Remove damp books or paperwork from shelves and open them to speed up drying.
7. DO NOT use any electrical appliances or lamps on wet carpeting or flooring.  This can cause shorting out of the wires and possible electrocution.
8. Do not use an ordinary vacuum cleaner to remove water.
9. DO NOT enter rooms with standing water until the electricity is turned off!!!
10. Do not lift carpeting that is tacked down, as doing so could cause damage to the backing as well as stretching of the material.  Wait for a professional.
11. Limit traffic on the carpeting or flooring until it has thoroughly dried.
